Introduction

The school of Electrical skills was established in the month of July, 2017 with a mission to impart quality education along with extensive hands-on training in electrical laboratories and industries. This will enable the graduates and postgraduate students to demonstrate their electrical skills in order to formulate and solve practical problems with proficiency and integrity. The school offers a vibrant environment for the students to get trained with expertise and complete know how, based on the Swiss Dual System of training. This pattern combines theory and job oriented hands on training skills for installation and commissioning, maintenance and testing of electrical systems in domestic, commercial and industrial sectors. The renewable energy technology (RET) skill program is being started from July, 2018 aiming to impart quality education with extensive hands-on training in the area of renewable energy technologies and energy conservation. Energy plays a key role in the development and economic growth of a country. Thus the growth of energy sector is critical for socio-economic development particularly for rural areas. In Indian context, it is a great challenge to provide affordable energy services to the population. India is fortunate in having a lot of renewable energy resources like solar, wind, wave, etc. The renewable energy sources offer a critical solution to the India’s rapidly increasing energy demand challenges. More importantly, hundred years from now, there might not be any fossil fuels left. The importance of renewable energy is indispensable. Hence, the renewable energy field promises a lot in terms of sustainability and jobs prospects. The renewable energy sector provides excellent career opportunities for the smart and innovative minds. The field does not only present scientific and technological opportunities but also in the field of design, creativity, commercialization and business development. As per the experts, in future renewable energy sector is one of the top three career choices for making an impactful career.
The Smart Power System incorporates controllers, information and communication technologies in to electrical power system to create a smart grid in terms of infrastructure. The smart power system utilizes real time data monitoring and control techniques to create more efficient, reliable and responsive networks. The M. Voc. (Smart Power System) program under the school of Electrical Skills was started in academic session 2018-19. The main focus of the program is to deliver real-time monitoring, control, and advanced protection techniques to enhance reliability and security of the power networks. The program is dedicated towards network management, smart metering, efficient transmission and distribution of power, improve security and protection. Moreover, the School also offers the Ph.D. in the areas of power system, renewable energy technology and smart grid.

Objectives

After completion of the program, the students will:
B. Voc. Program (Electrical Skills )
  • Be trained to NSQF level 7 in at least one job role/ profile in field of Electrical skills.
  • Be able to design systems for house wiring and industrial wiring.
  • Be trained for multiple skill sets under the domain of electrical like construction electrical jobs, maintenance and repair of house hold electrical equipments and industrial equipment and industrial electrical machines.
  • Be able to supervise all the maintenance and operational works related to Electrical equipment in any company/ organization.
  • Be trained and equipped with knowledge and understanding to start their own enterprise in electrical domain.
  • Be able to appear for all competitive exams in any government sector like, UPSC, Defense, Railways and other PSU’s.
  • Opportunities for higher education such as M. Voc. and Ph. D.
Advanced Diploma (Electrical Skills)
  • Secure job in any electrical company as an electrical technician or a supervisor.
  • Supervise electrical works such as house wiring, industrial wiring as well as repairing and maintenance of electrical equipments.
  • Plan and setup their enterprise/ agency for electrical jobs such as house wiring contracts and maintenance of electrical equipment.
Diploma (Electrical Skills)
  • Be able to plan cost efficient estimation for house wiring and repairing of house hold electrical Items.
  • Start their own enterprise for the jobs of an Electrician.
Skill Certificate (Electrical Skills)
  • Provide the opportunities to the students to enhance their qualifications with their practical knowledge in order to make themselves ready for the job in this field.
  • Start a career as an electrician in small/medium scale industries.
B.Voc. (Renewable Energy Technology Skills)
  • Be trained to NSQF level 7 in the field of RET, to assess the commercial viability of this technologies, business opportunities and existing companies.
  • Have the knowledge, skills and elements of analysis and judgement necessary to consider a prefeasibility study, related to the use of renewable energy systems in different industrial sectors and services.
  • Be trained for multiple skill sets under the domain of renewable energy technology skills.
  • Supplement efforts in bridging the gap between demand and supply of power, with renewable energy sources and strengthening the grid system and evacuation arrangements for RE projects.
  • Be able to participate in an organisation involvement and continuous improvement.
  • Be able to become successful entrepreneurs thereby becoming providers rather than job seekers.
  • Identify the key players in renewable energy sector and able to explore the opportunities to promote renewable energy.
  • Trained & equipped with knowledge and understanding to start own business in renewable energy.
  • Identify the main lines of research in the field of technologies for harnessing renewable energy.
  • Be able to appear for all competitive exams in any government sector like, UPSC, Defense, Railways and other PSU’s.
Advanced Diploma (Renewable Energy Technology Skills)
  • Have the knowledge skills and elements of analysis and judgement necessary to select most appropriate systems for different types of applications (industrial or service).
  • Have the ability to analyze the behavior of a system in operation and make a diagnosis on the operating system.
  • Know the key players in renewable energy sector and able to identify the opportunities to promote renewable energy.
  • Have a holistic approach when working with renewable energy technology projects to present and communicate effectively.
Diploma (Renewable Energy Technology Skills)
  • Acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the description, selection and sizing, as well as calculating the performance of equipment.
  • Understand the role of Renewable Energy in product and service sector, as well as its importance in the energy change
  • Be trained to plan, organize, and execute a RET project with a goal of harnessing and clean Renewable Energy sources in the state for environment benefits.
  • Be capable to provide necessary support and facilitation in order to implement RE projects.
Skill Certificate (Renewable Energy Technology Skills)
  • Be capable to provide the opportunities to the students to enhance their qualifications with their practical knowledge in order to make themselves ready for the job in this field.
  • Be capable to understand the positive aspects of Renewable Energy Technology in relation to the natural and human aspects of the environment.
  • Handle the installation and commissioning of Solar projects in rural and urban areas.
  • Be capable to create direct and indirect employment opportunity in rural and backward areas.
M. Voc. Program (Smart Power System)
  • Be trained to National Skill Quality Framework (NSQF) level 9 in the field of Smart Power System, to assess the commercial viability of updating the existing conventional Power Plants, business opportunities in Power Plants.
  • Have the knowledge, skills and elements of analysis and judgement necessary to consider a pre-feasibility study for new Smart power plants.
  • Identify the main lines of research in the field of Smart Girds.
  • Trained & equipped with knowledge and understanding to start their career in Skill Universities and Colleges as a Teaching faculty as well as Researchers.
P.G. Diploma (Smart Power System)
  • Have the knowledge skills and elements of analysis and judgement necessary to select most appropriate systems for Smart Power System.
  • Have the ability to analyze the behavior of a system in operation and make a diagnosis on the operating system.
  •  Students have better opportunities to get the job in power plants and their R&D sector.
